There are many ways you can become involved at JKPC:
Our Director of Music, Jeff Gillespie, is in charge of the Music Ministry at JKPC and directs the Chancel Choir, the Spirit Alive Band, and the Hand Bell Choir. Many programs are on pause right now due to COVID protocols but we hope to meet again soon!
Chancel Choir - The Chancel Choir sings every Sunday morning at the 9am Traditional Worship Service from September through early June and at special services. Membership is open to all singers of middle school age and older. Rehearsals happen on Thursday evenings from 7 - 8:30pm.
Spirit Alive Band - This band plays every Sunday morning at the 11am Contemporary Worship Service and at special services all year long. Practice takes place twice per month and on Sunday mornings in between the two worship services.
Hand Bell Choir - An attempt is made every year to have a Hand Bell Choir offer special music at Christmas time and Easter time.
If you are interested in participating in any of these groups, please see or contact Jeff Gillespie via email.
All women of John Knox Presbyterian Church (members and/or friends) are considered to be part of this group! There are no monthly meetings, but PW is very active in supporting the church and its members in many ways. There are special dinners (with entertainment) in December and May, fundraisers (a garage sale in the spring and bake sale in the fall) to support our mission giving, and provision of a dinner for a family following the death of a loved one to mention a few.
The PW Coordinating Team oversees all these things. The team meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month (except July) at 6:30pm. Anyone interested in becoming involved in any of these activities should contact the moderator of this group, Bev Ray. You can also watch for information in the monthly Tidings newsletter.
John Knox Presbyterian Church prides itself on being an “Open.Caring.Community”. We like to show our friendliness as we greet everyone at our doors with a smile and/or maybe a fist-bump/elbow-bump. If you are a “people person” and would like to serve in this way, please contact Ann Hamel.
All church members with a passion for teaching our youth or helping Tina care for our infants and toddlers in the crib room are invited to reach out to for more information.
Members of the Chancel Guild come under the umbrella of the Worship Team and are responsible for preparing communion each month. Communion is celebrated usually on the first Sunday of each month and members of the Chancel Guild take turns with the preparations for it.
The Prayer Ministry Team meets monthly and is led by Ann Hamel. Prayer requests are received by phone (317-291-0308), or by emailing Ann.
The Landscape Team takes on the task of keeping our grounds beautiful and well kept. Special work days are scheduled from time to time to take care of mulching, trimming, raking, dividing hostas, etc. Team members take turns with watering during the hot summer months. If gardening is a passion of yours or you just like working outdoors, please feel free to join this group. Contact Ann Hamel to get involved.
Two volunteers are needed at each worship service to run the sound board and powerpoint at the back of the sanctuary. Other volunteers are needed to keep the church website fresh and up-to-date. When outside groups are using our facility, they sometimes need help with setting up equipment. Regular worship services, special services, and special events are recorded and shared on our church website and on Facebook. If technology is your thing, please feel free to volunteer your services. If technology is not necessarily your thing, but you’re interested in learning, free training is available! Contact Ann Hamel to get involved.
