Celebrating World Communion!
This Sunday at John Knox
You are invited to join us for worship this Sunday, October 3, either in-person or online - at 9:00 am for our Traditional Service, or at 11 am for our Contemporary Service. We welcome back Rev. DuWayne Hintz this Sunday as we join with Christians around the world to celebrate Holy Communion. If you wish to join us online for worship, you may do so through Facebook Live and our website. Click here to watch our streaming live services. Please note: You do not have to have a Facebook account to view our services.
Peace & Global Witness Offering - This Sunday
We will be collecting your donations for this worthy cause. You will find information about this offering in the Sunday bulletins. Your checks should be made payable to the Church but allocated to Peace & Global Witness. 75% of your donations will be forwarded to the PC USA, and 25% is retained by JKPC for our use as needed. In these times of Hurricanes, Floods, Earthquakes, and Wildfires, your donations will be a sign of hope for so many.
Interim Search Committee Update
John Knox welcomes Rev. M. Elizabeth Wagner from Itasca, IL to our Open Caring Community! Pastor Beth accepted our call to be our Interim Pastor. Her first day at JKPC will be October 26. We are excited that Pastor Beth will be leading us through the transition period and preparing us to call an installed pastor.
Mark your calendars and plan to meet and greet Beth and her husband, Jim at a gathering on October 30 from 3-5 pm. We are hoping to be outside for coffee, cider, and Long’s donuts. If it rains, we will move into Fellowship Hall and practice social distancing. Stop by, have a treat and welcome our new Interim.
Reminder
Don’t forget The Lume – Van Gogh Art Exhibit on October 9 at 11 am. Most everyone has picked up their tickets. If anyone wants to carpool, meet at the church at 10:15 am. We will gather at 11 am to enter. You will be on your own unless you prefer to stay with a church member. There will be a group of us getting together for lunch at the café after The Lume experience. The entire museum is included in the price of your ticket so plan to stay and explore.
Organ Recital - October 10
Our organist at John Knox Presbyterian, Shayla Van Hal, will be giving an organ recital on Sunday evening, October 10th, at 6:30 pm. The recital will feature a variety of sacred and concert works, including pieces by J.S. Bach, Cesar Franck, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Jean Titelouze, and Adolphus Hailstork. The recital will last around an hour, and a time of fellowship will follow. All are welcome to attend this free music event! If you can’t join us in person you can watch it online. The Storehouse Special Thanksgiving Request
The Storehouse has begun its preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday early. They are taking advantage of the availability of food items and good pricing and stocking their shelves to be ready for the increase in need that goes along with this holiday. This year, instead of food donations for Thanksgiving, they are asking for monetary donations instead, so they can rebuild their depleted coffers. If you wish to help them out with their holiday request your check should be written payable to the Church and allocate the funds to The Storehouse. This is a special request for the Thanksgiving holiday only. We will still have Food on the First and your food donations are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions please see any member of the Mission Team, Dan Bourne, Tim Graves, Carol McKeown or Bev Ray
Prime Timers - October 19
Our time together will take place a week later than we normally meet due to Lisa being on vacation the week before this. We will gather on Tuesday, October 19 at 11:15am to head to the Rustic Root in Beech Grove. We have reservations for 15 people at noon so please let us know if you can make it. If you want to meet us there just give us a heads up. Rustic Root is a favorite of the group so we hope you can join us! Please see Lisa Crismore if you have any questions.
Drive Through Trunk - Or - Treat
Our friends down the street at Westview Christian Church and Iglesia Hermandad Cristiana have invited us to come back and join in the fun! They are hoping for more decorated cars and participants in costumes this year! It is a great time for the visitors to view the cars as they leave. The two churches are starting to collect candy NOW! So when you are out and about, pick up a couple of bags of candy and bring it to John Knox. Lisa will collect it in her office. The churches want to have 500 bags on hand to pass out to their guests. New this year – the police department has agreed to come and direct traffic. Please mark your calendars and plan on attending this event to welcome our neighbors for Halloween!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the wonderful weather! I look forward to seeing you on Sunday either in person or online.
Blessings,
Lisa
