Lord, Prepare Me to be a Sanctuary!
This Sunday at John Knox
You are invited to join us for worship this Sunday, October 10, either in-person or online - at 9:00 am for our Traditional Service, or at 11 am for our Contemporary Service. We welcome back to the pulpit Rev. George LaMaster. George is a Professor of Communications at Marion University. He will be offering a time for us to reflect on how we should prepare ourselves to be living sanctuaries for God. If you wish to join us online for worship, you may do so through Facebook Live and our website. Click here to watch our streaming live services. Please note: You do not have to have a Facebook account to view our services.
Special offerings this Sunday:
- Baptism - This Sunday we celebrate with Amanda and Tim Owens, who come to have Virginia Ann Owens baptized. Virginia was born on March 7, 2021. Amanda is the grandchild of Lois Charboneau and the sister of Jillian Flynn. There are deep ties and connections to John Knox Presbyterian Church for this family. They are excited to share this special event with us, professing their faith in Christ and committing to raising Virginia in the Christian faith. We are also blessed to be a part of Aunt Jillian baptizing their beautiful daughter.
- Organ Recital - Our organist at John Knox Presbyterian, Shayla Van Hal, will be giving an organ recital on Sunday evening, October 10th, at 6:30 pm. The recital will feature a variety of sacred and concert works, including pieces by J.S. Bach, Cesar Franck, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Jean Titelouze, and Adolphus Hailstork. The recital will last around an hour, and a time of fellowship will follow. All are welcome to attend this free music event! If you can’t join us in person you can watch it online. Click here to watch the streaming live recital.
Lisa's Vacation Coverage
Lisa will be out of the office on vacation from October 11-16. Please contact Willy Almodovar at 317-603-2135 or Jillian Flynn at 317-397-1678 for pastoral care needs.
Prime Timers - October 19
Our time together will take place a week later than we normally meet due to Lisa being on vacation the week before this. We will gather on Tuesday, October 19 at 11:15 am to head to the Rustic Root in Beech Grove. We have reservations for 15 people at noon so please let us know if you can make it. If you want to meet us there just give us a heads up. Rustic Root is a favorite of the group so we hope you can join us! Please see Lisa Crismore if you have any questions.
Welcoming Our New Interim Pastor
Rev. M. Elizabeth Wagner from Itasca, IL accepted our call to be our Interim Pastor. Her first day at JKPC will be October 26. We are excited that Pastor Beth will be leading us through the transition period and preparing us to call an installed pastor. Mark your calendars and plan to meet and greet Beth and her husband, Jim at a gathering on October 30 from 3-5 pm. We are hoping to be outside for coffee, cider, and Long’s donuts. If it rains, we will move into Fellowship Hall and practice social distancing. Stop by, have a treat and welcome our new Interim. For more information about Rev. Wagner and to view her greetings video, click here.
Drive Through Trunk - Or - Treat
Westview Christian Church and Iglesia Hermandad Cristiana have invited us to come back and join in the fun! They are hoping for more decorated cars and participants in costumes this year! The two churches are starting to collect candy NOW! So when you are out and about, pick up a couple of bags of candy and bring it to John Knox. Lisa will collect it in her office. The churches want to have 500 bags on hand to pass out to their guests. New this year – the police department has agreed to come and direct traffic. Please mark your calendars and plan on attending this event to welcome our neighbors for Halloween!
Hat and Mitten Tree
Winters cold and snow is just around the corner and the Hat & Mitten Tree has been erected in the hallway outside the Sanctuary, awaiting your donations of new Hats, Scarves, Mittens, and Gloves, which will be distributed to kids in need at three neighborhood elementary schools. Donations to the tree will be accepted throughout the month of October, with October 31st being your last day to donate. The schools and the kids greatly appreciate our gifts of warmth and love. Thank you for giving, the Mission Team.
The Storehouse Special Thanksgiving Request
Please see the promotional for the Thanksgiving meals for this holiday season. We will still have Food on the First and your food donations are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please see any member of the Mission Team, Dan Bourne, Tim Graves, Carol McKeown, or Bev Ray.
This weekend should be fun as a group of use are meeting at the Art Museum to explore The Lume - Van Gogh Exhibit. I am looking forward to it. If I don't see you then, enjoy your weekend and see you on Sunday.
Blessings,
Lisa
