Session Update on Security:
In light of the recent theft of the soundboard, session met this past week and have made the following decisions concerning security:
- The sanctuary and choir room doors will be locked when the sanctuary is not in use.
- We will keep the south entrance doors unlocked during office hours.
- Request that Trustees to look into having beepers connected to all doors opening to the outside and making the beeping sound louder.
- Session will re-visit these decisions at our next regular stated session meeting on 9/27.
An Update on the theft of the Sound Board - the person, who stole our system, has been arrested. They had pawned the system and it looks like we will be able to recover it. Thanks to all who helped recover the security tape, positively identifying the person and having a picture of the sound board with the serial number.
Interim Search Committee Update
John Knox welcomes Rev. M. Elizabeth Wagner from Itasca, IL to our Open Caring Community! Pastor Beth accepted our call to be our Interim Pastor and was approved by the Session on Monday night. Next Wednesday she will be examined by the Presbytery Committee on Ministry. Her first day at JKPC will be October 26. We are excited that Pastor Beth will be leading us through the transition period and preparing us to call an installed pastor.
Peace & Global Witness Offering - Sunday, October 3
On Sunday, Oct. 3rd, we will be collecting your donations for this worthy cause. You will find information about this offering in the Sunday bulletins. Your checks should be made payable to the Church, but allocated to Peace & Global Witness. 75% of your donations will be forwarded to the PC USA, and 25% is retained by JKPC for our use as needed. In these times of Hurricanes, Floods, Earthquakes and Wildfires, your donations will be a sign of hope for so many.
World Communion Sunday - Sunday, October 3
On Sunday, October 3, we will celebrate the Lord’s Supper with Christians all over the world on World Communion Sunday.
Reminder
Don’t forget The Lume – Van Gogh Art Exhibit on October 9 at 11am. Most everyone has picked up their tickets. If anyone wants to carpool, meet at the church at 10:15am. We will gather at 11am to enter. You will be on your own unless you prefer to stay with a church member. There will be a group of us getting together for lunch at the café after The Lume experience. The entire museum is included in the price of your ticket so plan to stay and explore.
Organ Recital - October 10
Our organist at John Knox Presbyterian, Shayla Van Hal, will be giving an organ recital on Sunday evening, October 10th, at 6:30 pm. The recital will feature a variety of sacred and concert works, including pieces by J.S. Bach, Cesar Franck, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Jean Titelouze, and Adolphus Hailstork. The recital will last around an hour, and a time of fellowship will follow. All are welcome to attend!
The Storehouse Special Thanksgiving Request
The Storehouse has begun their preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday early. They are taking advantage of the availability of food items and good pricing and stocking their shelves to be ready for the increase in need that goes along with this holiday. This year, instead of food donations for Thanksgiving, they are asking for monetary donations instead, so they can rebuild their depleted coffers. If you wish to help them out with their holiday request your check should be written payable to the Church and allocate the funds to The Storehouse. This is a special request for the Thanksgiving holiday only. We will still have Food on the First and your food donations are greatly appreciated. If you have any questions please see any member of the Mission Team, Dan Bourne, Tim Graves, Carol McKeown, or Bev Ray.
Prime Timers - October 19
Our time together will take place a week later than we normally meet due to Lisa being on vacation the week before this. We will gather on Tuesday, October 19 at 11:15am to head to the Rustic Root in Beach Grove. We have reservations for 15 people at noon so please let us know if you can make it. If you want to meet us there just give us a heads up. Rustic Root is a favorite of the group so we hope you can join us! Please see Lisa Crismore if you have any questions.
Drive Through Trunk - Or - Treat
Sunday, October 31 – 2-4 pm Our friends down the street at Westview Christian Church and Iglesia Hermandad Cristiana have invited us to come back and join in the fun! They are hoping for more decorated cars and participants in costumes this year! It is a great time for the visitors to view the cars as they leave. The two churches are starting to collect candy NOW! So when you are out and about, pick up a couple bags of candy and bring it to John Knox. Lisa will collect it in her office. The churches want to have 500 bags on hand to pass out to their guests. New this year – the police department have agreed to come and direct traffic. Please mark your calendars and plan on attending this event to welcome our neighbors for Halloween!
Have a great weekend enjoying the cooler weather. If you are joining us at Pyoca, it should be a lot of fun! As usual, the kids, youth, Goehrig and I plan to get messy with our arts and crafts!
Blessings,
Lisa
